Part II: Interactive Discussion Guide

In Part I of The Ethical GPS (the printed guide), we learned how to establish a culture of ethics and a foundation of values in your organization, and we offered a toolbox to aid in the process. But no matter how well you plan, the ultimate test occurs when you're confronted with an ethical dilemma and forced to make a decision. This is where the rubber meets the road.

We encourage you to take time to engage yourself and your colleagues in the consideration of such dilemmas. To get you started, watch the short videos to the right and pose the discussion questions that accompany each video. Consider what competing values are at stake, and what changes to the facts would affect your decision. There's a pretty good chance you've encountered one of these scenarios before. What did you do then? Now that you've built an ethical framework, would you make a different choice?

You will quickly realize that, quite often, there is no one "right" answer to each dilemma. In fact, many times, both choices seem like the right or wrong course of action. But if you carefully consider your values, your organization’s values, and the toolbox we've presented, your eventual decision will most likely be an ethical one — one that will help you keep the public’s trust.
