Fifer for Delegate

March 24, 2015

I’m excited to announce that I am running for the Democratic nomination for the Virginia House of Delegates in the 45th District! I look forward to continuing the effective and principled leadership of our retiring delegate and my friend, Rob Krupicka.

My entire career has been devoted to public service. For over 20 years, I've been honored to serve the people of Virginia professionally and through non-profit and political advocacy. As a local government communications director, e-government manager, and instructional technology trainer, I've brought the services of government to the people it serves. I've worked hard to make government more transparent, responsive, and accessible, and to help those in every part of our society have a voice and a vote.

I've been an active volunteer in human services and my faith community, having served on the United Way regional council and many other non-profit boards. As a Court-Appointed Special Advocate, I have been a tireless advocate for children who are victims of abuse and neglect.

I've been a longtime Democratic activist, working in leadership positions and with shoe rubber to help elect progressive candidates and make our Party stronger and more effective. I will be a strong, progressive voice in Richmond, but we all know the climate in Richmond needs less partisanship and more results. As an appointee of Governors Warner and Kaine to the Virginia Freedom of Information Advisory Council, the current President of the Virginia Coalition for Open Government, and the current chair of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership's Northern Virginia board, I have extensive experience forming bipartisan coalitions, finding common ground, and writing and shepherding legislation that actually becomes law.

With your help, I'll leverage my skills and service to represent the 45th District with honor and impact. I've spent decades fighting for the least powerful and most vulnerable, and I'm committed to ensuring that everyone has the chance to grow and thrive regardless of luck or circumstance. I believe in people, in our calling to help each other succeed, and in the right of everyone in our society to be treated with dignity and respect.

The last 48 hours have been a whirlwind, as I took the steps necessary to file as a candidate and setup a campaign. In the coming days, I'll expand this site to tell you more about myself and my vision for the 45th, and I'll ask for your ideas about how to make our community even stronger. I look forward to earning your vote in the Democratic Primary on June 9.

-Craig
