Firing Range
Roanoke Police Department Advanced Citizen Police Academy
July 2, 2002

After extensive safety training and dry firing, I loaded my city issue Glock 22 handgun with .40 caliber ammunition and practiced firing from the 21-foot line.
By the time everyone practiced, darkness had fallen. This photo has not been color corrected, so you can see how dark it was when we were ready to fire for score. Here I'm firing 20 rounds from the 21-foot line.
Next, we moved back to the 45-foot line and fired another 10 rounds.
Finally, we moved back to the 75-foot line and fired 15 more rounds. The targets are barely visible in the background of the photo.
After we had fired 45 rounds, we checked our weapons and inspected our targets.
The chief range officer scored my target with a white paint marker. Of 45 rounds, 42 hit the target. I had:
  • 2 outside the rings
  • 6 in the largest ring
  • 4 in the next ring
  • 9 in the next ring
  • 13 in the next ring
  • 8 in the bullseye

My final score was 225 out of 250, or 90.0%. The passing score for the Roanoke Police Department is 80.0%.
