Tapestry Theatre donated half of the opening night proceeds from their production of Flyin' West, at the Lee Center in Alexandria. Bracelets were also available for sale at all performances.

Old Town Restaurant Event - Jan. 13, 2005

As a kick-off to the WaveAid 2005 campaign, we partnered with 12 restaurants in Old Town Alexandria. The goal was to raise both funds and awareness in our community, and to build a wave of generosity to be felt by those in need.

WaveAid directed all donations to AmeriCares, a leading aid organization distributing medicine and other relief supplies throughout the South Asia region. Through this creative parternship, WaveAid raised more than $14,000 for AmeriCares by Jan. 13!

Each contributor received a handmade bracelet that served not only as a statement of support for the tsunami relief effort, but also as a ticket to a variety of generous discounts and specials offered by participating restaurants. The aquamarine glass bead reminds us of the fragile nature of human life. The stainless steel jewelry running through it symbolizes the strength of the tsunami survivors. The suggested donation amount was $10, although the average donation well exceeded that amount. All bracelet supplies were donated by Beadazzled bead shop, so that 100% of contributions could be forwarded to AmeriCares.
